Plenty of greens for everyone...
PROPOSED AGENDA FOR NEXT COMMUNITY MEETING
Hello All, Here is a first draft of our agenda for the planning
meeting. Wish more of you could be there, but please add your thoughts
and ideas. ALso, if you feel drawn to sign up for one of the areas of
responsibility listed here, please write a comment saying so. We're
hoping for one or two for each area (and you can sign up for more than
one!)
Thanks,
Kirsten
Dandelion Ranch Planning Meeting
Saturday, April 14 Cancelled. Meeting is being rescheduled (please go to Doodle to indicate your availability)
Description of all main areas to be taken over— Ideally two
people will cover each area, one as primary and one as a backup. We may
want to combine some of these areas of responsibility….
•
Transplanting: building and maintenance of flats throughout the seasons,
creation and care of the potting soil throughout the seasons, awareness
of starts... watering and transplanting.
• Watering and row covers:
aware of the irrigation system, frequency of watering when not under
irrigation. Aware of the row covers, when on, open, or off etc.
• Soil awareness: the details of double digging new areas, preparing existing beds for planting, etc.
• Compost monitor: know the percentages of what makes the piles work,
checking temperature and moisture content, be aware of the pick-up team
etc.
• Weeding and harvesting : knowing when plants are ready to
harvest, how to harvest, which plants are weeds and how we weed to the
best benefit of the garden, frequency of weeding/harvesting, etc.
• Construction and maintenance: of buildings, fences etc.
• Tool care/supplies: keeping gardening tools and supplies orderly and cared for
• Money management: be aware of the garden’s cash flow, work with the
NM Community Fund to maintain books and oversee reimbursements,
communicate with community members for agreed upon money use, etc.
•
Fundraising: someone inspired to creatively manifest ways to keep the
garden afloat... develop membership contributions, interface with public
and come up with fund raising projects such as selling starts, etc.
• Bloggers: some folks to take over and keep up with our beautiful blog posts
• Community meeting organizer
• Celebrations: Equinox and Solstice and Beltane.. time to share food,
music, story telling, etc.... socialize and raise celebratory energy in
and for the garden.
• New member orientation: someone to introduce
new members to the garden... set up special times for new members to
come and get a tour and meet folks?
First phase of planning garden structure:
The first questions to be addressed will be:
1) How will expenses be paid?
2) How will decisions be made?
3) What will membership look like? (open vs. closed? Requirements? Benefits?)
We will try to cover as much on the above three topics as possible. At a
future meeting, the group will need to decide things like:
1) What will be grown?
2) What methods will be used?
3) How large will the garden be/become?
